Welcome to my new experimental section. It is called Obi-Walrus' Star Wars Thought O The Day, and I hope to make that title be literal. I will attempt to daily post a new and different thought from the various aspects of the Star Wars universe. Somedays it might be a few sentences, somedays a few paragraphs, and maybe every now and then a thesis statement. If I do get lazy and miss a day or two then I will post the missing thoughts with the new one. All in all I hope to have 365 Star Wars thoughts by 22 June, 2000. I hope you enjoy! |
August 1999
August, 1999Recently I started to read "Foundation" by Issac Assimov. I was amazed at all of the similarities to SW inside of it. But seeing as it was written the 50's, it means that it influenced SW rather than the other way around. The biggest thing I noticed though was a Capital City/Planet of the "Galactic Empire" that was located at the center of the Galaxy. This City/Planet had bee the seat of Government for countless generations. I you havn't read this piece of classic Sci-Fi yet, the I suggest you do |
August, 1999Will Obi-Wan's beard be back in Episode II? I think it very well may be. He will grow it as a tribute to his fallen master. |
August, 1999Okay, here is why Leia wasn't more sneaky when she freed Han(what with all the thudding and taking off masks and lingering around afterwards.) And the reaso she wasn't more sneaky is ingenious. It was so that when Luke showed up Han would be in the dungeon but free no less. It saved Luke from having to whoomp up on the Sarlacc, blow up Jabba's Barge and then go all the way back to palace to get Han out. Also don't you think Jabba would have brought his favorite piece of art with him on the barge? And wouldn't that have put a serious kink in Luke's plans to blow it up? |
August, 1999I loved in TPM when Maul, Obi-Wan, and Qui-Gon first meet, and they all throw their robes on the floor. It was sorta the Jedi version of "throwing down". |
August, 1999I got the impression that after Maul made an Hoer Douvre(sp) out of Qui-Gon, that he would have wiped his saber for effect on his boots. The only holdback being that it was a lightsaber. |
August, 1999Why havn't we ever seen a schematic or projection or something of the completed second Death Star? Yes it would probably just look like a bigger version of the first one, but it would still be interesting no less to see. |
August, 1999I think that George Lucas should have put the Prophecy of The Son Of Suns at the beginning of TPM instead of "a long time ago. . ." I can understand him wanting to keep things consistent, but that's what the scroll and floating logo are for. Afterall this is the first movie of a 6 part saga and a prophecy would be asn excellent way of starting it all off. |
August, 1999Wasn't it Vader that blew up Artoo in ANH? If so, then I'll let you do the thinking on that one. |
August, 1999Of course we all noticed in TPM when Obi-Wan told Qui-Gon that "that's your point of view". So Obi-Wan learned well from his master afterall |
August, 1999On Tatooine in TPM Obi-Wan says "I'm afraid we may be stuck here for quite a long time." If only he knew.(Watching over Luke on Tatooine for 20 years.) |
August, 1999I think Obi-Wan was right when he said "your father ceased to be Anakin Skywalker. . ." because Anakin would never do the things that Vader did. So indeed it was as if he were another person entirely. |
August, 1999In a way I don't want there to be prequels. !? Because for all these years I've formed inmy head my own ideas of Obi-Wan and Anakin dulein over the molten pit etc., and it's all going to be on film and set in stone how it happened. In other words it was as if the myth had a myth of it's own, and now that myth will be destroyed by realiztion. Of course I'll still be the first in line for 2 and 3, and I'll be as excited as hell about both. I'm just saying is all. |
August, 1999I thought the idea of giving Qui-Gon a funeral pyre was a noble way to be sent off and all, but. . .did they have to show close ups of the body being engulfed in flame? |
August, 1999My favorite song off of the TPM soundtrack? Probably kids at play. It has this whole Bravheartish epic sound to it. I liked Qui-Gon's Funeral as well. Especially when it cut briefly to the Imperial March. That must have been from where we were looking at Palpatine at the funeral. |
August, 1999It's too bad that Qui-Gon wasn't younger than he was,and it's also too bad that he was killed, because I think that he would have done a very good job of watching Luke for 20 years on Tatooine, but even if he had lived he would have been about 80 by the time that Luke was born. Also it's sorta his fault that Luke would have had to been watched in the first place. |
